Killer Whale Academy is the apex program within the Campbell River Killer Whales swimming program. Here, most swimmers have narrowed their focus to swimming, schooling, and family, choosing for a time to organize their lives around morning academics and a prescribed, afternoon training program. Athletes in this group will have agency and autonomy at this age, making independence, initiative, strong executive function skills, such as time management, planning and organizing, grit, and strong communication with coaches and teachers essential to their success. The Academy program consists of an intense and comprehensive swimming program involving aerobic and anaerobic training, the refinement of all 4 strokes, and increased speed in all distances.
This program aims to prepare athletes for the Long Course (50 meters) at a Senior National Level. To support this, athletes will be assigned a land work program involving kettlebells, TRX suspension, basic power lifts, Olympic platform lifts, agility training, and outdoor aerobic training. New to the 2025-2026 season the Academy will offer specific goal setting, specific sport neuro mechanics training, underwater video analysis and much more.
